    Retire or Not…That’s The Question

Well October 30th was looking good and I was anxiously awaiting that date so I could retire. I was getting pumped and ready but now as with most best laid plans, I’m not too sure. This morning I was approached by management of the new owner’s of the company I work for and they had an idea to toss around. Yeah you guessed it…maybe no retirement.  It seems that they are now willing to pull me from the shop and put me in a management position to help with their growth and expansion because of my many years and experience in the business. Tomorrow there will be more discussion and some negotiations. Lots to do to set me up with a new computer, office and whatever else I might need to perform my duties but their offer really sparked my attention. The position is right up my alley and nothing new to me because I had a position similar to this before coming to Canada. This would have been something I would have eventually looked for after being off for a period of time and getting bored but now it’s staring me right in the face. I’m pumped again and told them I would be willing to put retirement on hold if things come to a good end result which I have a feeling they will.

What’s a fellow to do? Might as well leave my investments to earn more money until a later date eh? I know that retirement was number one on my list before I become to old or not live long enough to enjoy it as was the case of my late wife Ellen. I think that is my biggest fear but maybe I should put my phobia aside and take this opportunity for a more satisfying and gratifying career move.

Details to follow when the dust clears. Oh me…Oh my here I go again.

That rocks Uncle C! Isn't life funny? I always say, "You just never know what's around the corner." Just when you think you know the direction you're heading, something happens that switches it all up. If this job opportunity puts fire in your belly and excites you, go for it...everybody heals in different ways:) I'm happy for you xo

Curtis, I found this blog by accident. I can't stop reading. You are very good at making us feel that we know you. I have laughed, smiled, and cried while reading. Thank you for sharing. I have you as a favourite now. We also travel to the US on long weekends (Mpls). Your comments on your trip make me feel like we are back there again. Keep up the good work. Retirement is not all it's cracked up to be if you like what you do. I agree with Joe. If you still enjoy getting up and going to work, why stop.

Well, I always say that everything happens for a reason. Even though we may not see it at the time. If this is something you would enjoy, then go for it. Enjoy it while you can, then when it is no longer enjoyable, retire. Cheers.

Congrats on a great opportunity. By all means Go For It! After all, if you still feel like retiring after taking this promotion, you can always retire then. I have a feeling you are going to enjoy this new change. As they say, a change is as good as a vacation. (Well, someone says it. Me, I'll take the vacation.)

This is a great opportunity to make a new career Curtis. I think you feel honoured that you are good enough for the new position in the company and isn't it a good feeling when they want you to stay? You earned respect in your job and now it will pay you and enrich your life (and hopefully your pocket). There is time enough for retirement, you're still young and there are many years to go before you are old enough to sit in your rocking chair. :-)

Sounds like it might be just the thing to do until you really retire, especially if it's right up your alley. Retirement is boring - just ask my hubby! He's always looking for things to do.
Take care and enjoy your weekend.
